Fancy living the suburban dream in Spain, with easy access to top-class golf courses and fabulous beaches? If the answers yes then Villamartin could be right up your street. Located just a short drive from the bustling tourist mecca that is Torrevieja and only 45 minutes from Alicante airport, this popular expat destination combines style and affordability with aplomb. All the while keeping the manic resort lifestyle found to the north at arm’s length.
Golf enthusiast will be in seventh heaven here thanks to its close proximity to no less than three championship golf courses – Villamartin, Campoamor and Las Ramblas. Considered good enough to host the 1994 Mediterranean Open – won by Jose Maria Olazabal – the course at the Villamartin Golf Club borders the town, separating it from nearby Villacosta. While Campoamor and Las Ramblas sit next to one another just 10 minutes’ drive up the road.
You certainly won’t go wanting for white sand beaches around here, but it’s worth noting that Villamartin’s slight inland location does mean you might need a car to access them, depending on how far you’re prepared to walk. Within a 5 kilometre radius of your new home you’ll find four beaches with European Blue Flag status and excellent facilities for the family: La Zenia – also good for a spot of shopping – Cabo Roig, Playa Flamenca and Campoamor.

Located in the heart of this wonderful area, Villamartin Plaza offers visitors a tantalising selection of bars, restaurants and cafes, as well as more practical amenities such as a bank, doctors and hairdressers. The traditional Spanish architecture – wrought iron balconies, terracotta and ceramic tiles and stunning Spanish style lamps – helps to create a pleasant ambience. All of which combines to provide a social focal point for the town. The African Ring Neck parrots that reside in the palm trees surrounding the plaza have gained celebrity like status, especially when it comes to taking a snap or two.
For around £119,000 you can pick up a modern two-bed apartment, with open plan living/dining areas, fitted kitchen, communal pool and garden. If you need a little more room you won’t have to spend much more than £178,000 to get your hands on a spacious three-bed apartment, complete with your own private pool and terrace area.
