Spain’s unrivalled choice of clean, well-maintained beaches has been highlighted by the latest Blue Flag Awards, said property specialist PropertyAndSpain.co.uk in May, adding that the Costa Blanca in particular should be celebrated for its number of quality beaches, making homeownership there even more appealing.
Blue Flag status has been granted to 579 beaches in Spain this year, the highest number of all 47 countries judged by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and equal to 16 per cent of the total number of beaches achieving the award around the world. Looking closer, the Valencian Community, which includes the provinces of Valencia, Alicante and Castellón and the Costa Blanca, is the Spanish region with the highest number of Blue Flag beaches. The region’s 129 Blue Flag beaches account for 22 per cent of Spain’s total. “The Blue Flag programme is held in high regard internationally,” said Julian Walker, director at PropertyAndSpain.co.uk. “It’s a useful reference for anyone looking for a holiday home near a beach that is guaranteed to be clean and meet certain standards, including hygiene, sanitary conditions, safety, accessibility and lifeguard provisions.” Here are examples of Blue Flag beaches in the Costa Blanca, with details of a property close by available through PropertyAndSpain.co.uk:
Jávea, northern Costa Blanca
Arenal is the main beach in the popular resort of Jávea. Gently sloping with fine sand and incredibly clean water, it is fringed by a promenade, and low-rise bars and restaurants. Extra attractions include volleyball nets, play areas for kids, a diving platform and in the summer open-air cinema screenings are put on there. Two other Blue Flag beaches in the Jávea area include La Granadella and La Grava. PropertyAndSpain.co.uk is selling two and three-bedroom apartments at a new development just two minutes’ walk – or 300 metres – from Arenal. In a great location with easy access to Jávea’s old town and marina, communal facilities include a pool and landscaped gardens. For more information, click here.
Moraira, northern Costa Blanca
A small family resort tucked between verdant mountains, where low-density residential areas slope down to the pretty seafront, Moraira’s three most central beaches are all Blue Flag. The main and most popular one is L’Ampolla, a gently sloping, fine sandy beach that’s next to the resort’s centre. At the northern end of the resort is the pretty El Portet, a peaceful, unspoilt sandy beach set within a cove. And at the southern end of the resort, is a string of small half sandy, half pebbly beaches, all linked by a promenade, called Les Platgetes. PropertyAndSpain.co.uk is selling a brand new four-bedroom luxury villa, within 20 minutes of Moraira’s beachfront. For more information, click here.
Cabo Roig, Orihuela Costa
A holiday home hot spot in the southern Costa Blanca, the resort of Cabo Roig boasts two Blue Flag beaches, namely La Caleta and smaller Cala Capitán, both in residential areas and separated by a headland. Both are fine sandy beaches linked by a wooden walkway, with all the expected facilities, including volleyball and sunbeds. Cala Capitán also boasts a children’s play area. PropertyAndSpain.co.uk is offering two and three-bedroom apartments at a gated complex within 15 minutes’ walk of Cabo Roig’s two Blue Flag beaches. Sold off-plan, the development includes outdoor and indoor pools and a sauna. In a prime spot, Cabo Roig’s restaurants and shops are also within walking distance. For more information, click here.
