When you make the move to Spain you will want to know that there are plenty of shops nearby to satisfy your retail needs. But not just any old shops: somewhere you can pick up anything from the latest fashions to a shiny new iPad. If you’re considering buying on the Costa del Sol you will have all this and more once British real estate investment trust, Intu Properties plc completes the construction of its latest all singing, all dancing commercial and leisure park in Torremolinos.

Already the proud owner of 14 high-quality shopping centres throughout Britain, their domestic success saw then expand into the Spanish market, where they have developed centres in Madrid, Zaragoza and Oviedo. Now it’s the Costa del Sol’s turn to be provided with a world-class facility that will serve the entire region. Intu are ploughing a whopping €600 million into their latest project, which won’t simply offer creative retail units.

Due for completion in 2020, Intu Costa del Sol will offer visitors a variety of leisure facilities on the 96,000 square metre site, to complement their usual offering of shops, cafes and restaurants. For example, you will be able to work on your parallel turns on the open-air dry ski-slope, jump on the big wheel in the theme park for stunning views of the coast, visit the aquarium to relax after a hard days shopping and cool off in the wave pool. You will probably need more than one day to enjoy everything on offer, so are even building a hotel to ensure visitors can make the most of the facilities.

Set to become the largest development of its type on the Mediterranean coast, the ambitious project will bring a number of benefits to the local area and region as a whole. Intu have confirmed that the complex is expected to create more than 4,000 direct jobs and another 3,000 indirect positions, with 75% of direct contracts being reserved for female employees and groups at risk of social exclusion. What’s more, the company is planning to modify access roads into Torremolinos to manage the inevitable increase in traffic once Intu Costa del Sol opens, further improving the areas infrastructure.
